About me

I grew up in the countryside surrounded by animals, both domestic and farm animals, and they have always been my passion from the earliest age.  As soon as I was able to, I joined Young Farmers and became involved in showing cattle and sheep at County level shows. I also volunteered at a community farm where I was able to help train other youngsters about caring for animals, preparing them for showing and how to act responsibly and safely around them. I got my first dog when I was 17 - a Border Collie called Whisper. To say we were unprepared as a family for his arrival is an understatement! It quickly became obvious that, as a working breed, Collies require a specific style of training. I worked with Whisper in both obedience and sheepdog work. This sparked my interest in canine behaviour and training techniques and I went on to study the subject at Chester University, graduating in 2021 with a BSc Hons in Canine Clinical Behaviour.

With years of experience working with dogs of all ages, breeds, and temperaments, I have developed a deep understanding of their unique needs and behaviours. Whether you're looking to teach your dog new tricks, address problem behaviours, or improve their overall health and well-being, I'm here to help.

As a certified dog trainer and behaviourist, I use positive reinforcement techniques to help your dog learn and thrive. From basic obedience to more advanced training, I work with you and your dog to build a strong foundation of trust, communication, and respect.

In addition to training and behaviour consulting, I am also furthering my knowledge on canine nutrition, as I believe that a healthy diet is the foundation for a happy and vibrant life.

I know from my experience that not only each breed, but each individual dog requires a specific training style suited to their needs, so I always first make an assessment of the owner/handler’s interaction with their dog to gauge the best approach. I believe that every dog can and should be given the chance to show what they can bring to the relationship with their owners, and that by training together the unique bond between them is established and enhanced. There is simply nothing better for bonding with your dog than working together to achieve changes in behaviour or to learn new skills.

I believe that no dog is beyond help and that, by working with their owners, together we can achieve great things!

My Dogs

Currently I have two Border Collies of my own - River and Mia - (Whisper is enjoying semi-retirement  in the countryside with my parents!), plus my partner's dog; a Husky/Malamute cross called Ruby.

River and Mia are littermates and have a close bond, particularly as River suffered an accident as a puppy on the farm where he was bred, which led to him having a metal plate in his leg and made him unsuitable for sheep dog training. Taking him on and learning how the two interact with each other has been a fascinating journey and has taught me a lot about canine siblings, the effect of trauma on a young dog and the unique challenges this brings. At first when together they were extremely dog-reactive, but a patient training regime has improved this trait a great deal.

River has shown a particular flair for scent work, whilst Mia is excelling at canine hoopers. Mia has, more recently, had her own share of medical issues. She is now on a gluten-free diet which has improved both her coat condition and temperament towards other dogs.

By developing their independence and building their trust in me they have come to rely less on each other, although they still of course share an unbreakable bond! Ruby is a completely different dog, very laid back and independent!

These three really demonstrate how every dog has its own personality and, therefore, training needs.
